Magnetism Poem[2 min.]
We walked around the streets of Gdańsk, Poland, and we asked random people to read some parts of the poem Magnetismo by Jhonnatan Curiel in the original language, as some sort of twisted Spanish lesson.

To video do utworu muzycznego o tym samym tytule. Inspiracją do nakręcenia video była polska tradycja palenia marzanny, celebrująca początek wiosny i pożegnanie się z zimą. Symbolicznym wyrazem tej tradycji jest pokłon w kierunku przyszłości, przygotowanie na początek czegoś nowego, co może zaistnieć w miejscu czegoś co się skończyło. Do uczestnictwa w nagraniu zaprosiłam osoby, które przyniosły ze sobą rzeczy symbolizujące przeszłość i wspomnienia o których chcą zapomnieć. Rytualne spalenie tych rzeczy było psychicznym pożegnaniem się z częścią siebie i oczyszczeniem tworzącym miejsce na to, co będzie. To wydarzenie stało się jednocześnie artystycznym wyrazem Hong Kongskiej tradycji palenia papierowych przedmiotów, o której dowiedziałam się podczas realizacji tego projektu. Jest to obrzęd praktykowany podczas święta zmarłych . Spalane przedmioty dedykowana są zmarłym w celu gloryfikacji relacji tego co rzeczywiste i pośmiertne. Akt spalania w tym wypadku jest rytuałem pamięci a nie zapomnienia, a początek jest inspiracją przeszłości a nie jej unicestwieniem.
MBIRA [3 min.] This is a video for a music composition bearing the same title. The inspiration behind the video is the Polish tradition of „palenie marzanny”, which celebrates the beginning of spring and the farewell to winter. The symbolic expression of this tradition is a bow towards the future; a preparation for something new, replacing what has come to an end. Invited participants brought things that, for them, symbolize the past and remind them of things they want to forget. The ritual burning of those things represented a spiritual farewell to this part of themselves and a catharsis, making room for the new to come. The process has also became an artistic expression of the Hong Kongese tradition of burning paper items, which I found out about when making the project. This custom is practiced during the Hong Kongese Day of the Dead. The burnt items are dedicated to the dead aiming to glorify the relation between the real and the after-life. The act of burning, in this case, is a ritual of commemoration, not of separation; the new beginning does not destroy the past but is inspired by it.

La inspiración tras la pieza es la tradición Polaca de “palenie marzanny”, que celebra el inicio de la primavera y el adiós al invierno. La expresión simbólica de esta tradición es una venia hacia el futuro; la preparación para algo nuevo que reemplaza lo que ha llegado a su fin. Los participantes invitados traen objetos que, para ellos, simbolizan el pasado y les recuerdan cosas que quisieran olvidar. La quema ritual de esos objetos representa un adiós espiritual a esta parte de ellos y una catarsis, que abre espacio a lo nuevo por llegar. En la pieza se abre un diálogo que contrasta La tradición Polaca con la tradición Hongkonesa de quemar objetos de papel, la cual conocí durante la realización del proyecto. Esta costumbre es practicada durante el Día de Muertos Hongkonés. Los elementos quemados son dedicados a los muertos con el propósito de glorificar la relación entre la vida real y la vida después de la muerte. Mediante este acto, se espera que los objetos quemados pasen a formar parte del mundo de los muertos; el acto de la quema, en este caso, es un ritual de conmemoración, no de separación; el nuevo inicio no destruye el pasado sino que es inspirado por éste.
